Synopsis

Working with National Taiwan University’s Department of Entomology, the artist bred thousands of Asian tiger mosquitoes in Second Life: Habitat, a project that integrated digital technology in an ecosystem. The mosquitoes went through stages of their lifecycle in the installation created, and were then killed by a bug zapper. Those “lives” were converted by a digital system and transformed into virtual avatars in a computer game. As the game progressed, the artist’s blood was used as food for the mosquitoes. Through the game, the meaning of life in the digital era was examined.
